Grób Gelerta

There’s a place in Wales where a dog is buried. Under a tree 🙂 The town is called Beddgelert (Gelert’s Grave).


The legend associated with this place goes, in short, like this:

Prince Llywellyn the Great (Llywelyn Fawr) went hunting and left his faithful hound at home to watch over his little son. After he returned, he saw traces of a horrendous fight. There was blood everywhere; the dog covered in blood at one end of the room, the child covered in blood by the crib. Without thinking, Llywelyn got the sword out and killed Gelert. After his fury subsided and let him see clearly, he noticed a deadly bitten wolf, lying at the other end of the room.


I remember how much I yearned to see this place, as I had known the legend for a long time! I managed to go there in 2009. The place is charming, with houses made of stone, so characteristic for the North Wales. So clean and so calm…
